T. Rowe Price has enhanced its Australian trading execution capabilities with the appointment of specialist buy-‐side equities trader Richard Nelson.

Richard will oversee trading in Australian and New Zealand listed securities, as an Equities Dealer, working closely with T.Rowe Price Head of Australian Equities, Randal Jenneke, and the firm’s regional trading team.

The appointment comes as T. Rowe Price’s Australian equities business enjoys significant momentum and growth.

Mr Jenneke attributes the strong uptake in the firm’s Australian equity capability to it being one of the few in the market that is globally connected with an experienced local team, a proven quality growth investment style and capacity to be nimble.

“We are delighted to add to our capability one of the most experienced and well regarded Australian equities buy-‐side traders,” Mr Jenneke said.

“Richard brings deep knowledge of the equities trading process and understands the myriad of technologies and relationships that can affect trading outcomes.

“We believe his expertise in efficient and effective trading strategies will help us enhance investment returns from our bottom up research driven investment process, adding value to portfolios and achieving best execution for our clients.”

Mr Nelson said the dynamic nature of markets mixed with the rise of electronic trading has created complexity and challenges for dealers responsible for institutional trade execution.

“Some trading costs have fallen, yet others have grown such as signaling risk, liquidity restraints and increased compliance,” Mr Nelson said.

“By being immersed in the investment process and working closely with our investment teams, our dealing team can identify risks or opportunities associated with trades and react accordingly.

“This collaboration ultimately allows the trading function to play a larger role and contribute to overall investment performance.”

Richard has 25 years experience in investment markets. Before joining T.Rowe Price Richard worked at AllianceBernstein as Head of EMEA Trading (trading European equities) and Head of Australia/NZ Dealing (trading Australian equities). Richard holds a CFA charter form the CFA Institute and Master of Applied Finance degree from Macquarie University.
