Singapore Exchange June Trading Summary

June volume on the Singapore Exchange was markedly quieter than May with its main board volume of 42,549,273,000 valued at 35,633,835,000SGD down 27% and 21%, respectively. Interestingly, however, market capitalization in June increased slightly to 343,237,151,000SGD from 341,787,464,000 last May. Singtel remained the largest name by market capitalization valued at almost 48,000,000,000 SGD.

On the futures side the Nikkei 225 contract saw turnover close to its March high churning 2.5 million contracts. Open interest at month end was 163,957 contracts. The SGX MSCI Taiwan Index (SGX TiMSCI) future was the second most traded future at the SGX. Turnover has been steady since March with June contract volume slightly above 1.4 million contracts. In contrast to the equity market futures trading volume reached a year high of 5,007,067 contracts in June.
