Deutsche Börse Launches Algo News Feed in Australia

New proximity hosting site in Sydney marks expansion of “AlphaFlash” into Asia-Pacific region.

Deutsche Börse – Market Data & Analytics is making its algorithmic news feed “AlphaFlash” available in a data center in Sydney as of 15 November. This is the first time that AlphaFlash will be offered in the Asia-Pacific region.

AlphaFlash will be hosted in the Equinix Sydney (SY1) International Business Exchange (IBX®) data center and can be easily accessed by other financial companies and trading firms that currently operate there.

“The Australian market has an active algo trading community with several buy and sell-side firms looking for machine-readable news for their trading applications. This is why we selected Sydney as the starting point for AlphaFlash’s expansion into the Asia-Pacific region,” said Georg Gross, Head of Front Office Data & Analytics at Deutsche Börse. “By choosing Equinix Sydney, we will be able to provide AlphaFlash directly to the community of financial services firms and market participants that already use the data center.”

“We are very pleased to be able to offer our financial services customers the AlphaFlash algorithmic news feed in Sydney,” commented David Wilkinson, Senior Director, Business Development of Equinix. “Equinix is seeing a lot of growth in the trading community. For these types of customers, the fastest possible access to news and market data, combined with the lowest possible latency, is paramount to their competitiveness and to reducing risk.”
AlphaFlash is now available in eight data centers globally, including co-location and proximity hosting options in Chicago, New Jersey, Washington, Frankfurt and three in London. Further data centers in Asia will be added later this year and early 2011.

Launched in April 2010, AlphaFlash delivers more than 175 machine-readable economic indicators from the U.S., Canada and Europe at millisecond speeds. Data content includes central bank interest rate decisions, employment numbers, housing statistics and gross domestic product figures. A version of AlphaFlash that includes macroeconomic data from Asia-Pacific is currently being beta tested and is scheduled to go into full production in 2011.

The AlphaFlash product range was built by Deutsche Börse’s Market Data & Analytics segment using resources from its subsidiaries Need to Know News (NTKN) and Market News International (MNI). As fully accredited news agencies, NTKN and MNI have direct access to government lock-up rooms as well as embargoed news releases. As a result, economic events are processed so they become available with minimum latency to speed-sensitive algo and professional traders after the embargo has been lifted.
