Effective today, the Asia chapter of the Information Providers User Group (IPUG), a Europe-based non-profit advocacy group for the users of market data services and the Financial Information Services Division (FISD), a global non-profit association for the financial information industry, have announced plans to cooperate in Asia. The organizations have agreed to combine resources to create a financial information consumer constituency group in the region. Facilitated by FISD and lead by IPUG Asia, the group will provide a forum to share information, develop best practices and build consensus around shared industry challenges.

“Information and information management is becoming a core function for every financial institution regardless of size” said Jeremy Green, Global Head of Market Data Services at Standard Chartered Bank and APAC Regional IPUG Chair. “As the competitive and regulatory landscape changes, the cost, accuracy and governance of this information becomes ever more critical. Bringing these two organizations together will create a platform that will improve the knowledge-sharing and effectiveness of professionals in the financial information industry in Asia.”

“FISD has been active in the Asia region for a number of years but lacked the level of local consumer participation that the IPUG Asia chapter has developed,” said Tom Davin, Managing Director at FISD. “We are excited by the immediate synergies between the two groups and look forward to building a valuable forum for the financial information industry.”

The newly created consumer constituency forum will conduct quarterly meetings, hosted by members and alternating between Singapore, Sydney, Hong Kong and Tokyo. A steering group will help define and drive the structure and the content for these meetings. The forum will create working groups that will progress specific areas of focus between the quarterly meetings. FISD will also run thought-leadership events around the region which will be open to all constituencies.
